At Stobhillgate we believe that Design and Technology prepares children to take part in the development of tomorrow’s rapidly changing world. Creative thinking encourages children to make positive changes to their quality of life. The subject encourages children to become independent and creative problem-solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. It enables them to identify needs and opportunities and to respond by developing ideas and eventually making products and systems.

We follow a broad and balanced DT curriculum that is carefully planned to  build on previous learning and provide support and challenge for learners. The teaching of Design Technology across the school follows the National Curriculum through the use of Design and Technology Association Projects on a Page; documents with pupils skills and knowledge being developed across five key areas;

  • Structures 
  • Mechanical Systems 
  • Electrical Systems
  • Textiles
  • Cooking and Nutrition

The DT curriculum is taught through 4 DT weeks a year. During each week the children design, make and evaluate a product based on a design criteria. Forest school is also used to strengthen the DT curriculum and Forest School units contain elements of designing structures and cooking and  nutrition.

Morpeth Partnership Curriculum Progression Document

We have been working closely with the Morpeth Partnership to produce documentation for each subject area.  These documents ensure clear progression and map out the teaching and learning journey your child will take in relation to each specific subject through each phase of their education.
